Hello – I’m Melissa Hoffman owner and creator of FiddleStitches. I love how color catches your eye and how texture expands it.
I saw my first Barn Quilt on a trip to the Oregon coast. I later learned that the idea of the Barn Quilt was from a woman wanting to pay tribute to her mother’s love of quilts. She started in Ohio and moved down to Kentucky enlisting the help of the Ohio Art Council. How intriguing…
The last 15 years I’ve been a professional long arm quilter – enjoying colors galore and giving each quilt texture to enhance the patterns and design.
Today I’m creating Wooden Barn Quilt Blocks from repurposed and reclaimed pieces of wood. Manageable in size to use in and around your home, they make me smile. Since I’m also accident prone, the cutting is done by someone more capable (my handy dandy son) who also understands geometry so much better than I do.
I’m married, we live in Newberg OR. Together (his and mine) we have 3 adult kids and 6 grandsons. Yup gatherings have been pretty loud and rambunctious. Pets have come and passed, currently we enjoy other’s furry friends, for now.
I happily describe myself as determined, inquisitive, happy and a bit tongue and cheek.
If I were a muppet, I’d be Fozzie Bear, he doesn’t stop trying and he wears a cute poke-a-dot tie – I do love poke-a-dots, all sizes!
