Project Description
“Beauty will save the world.” — Fyodor Dostoevsky
I’m Leslie of the Leafy Lexicon.
My early years were spent in Western Montana— surrounded by countryside, big skies and a small family who were excellent gardeners, artists and musicians.
The last thirty years I have enjoyed living in Yamhill county, interrupted by a few years spent abroad and more metropolitan environs.
Plants have been the center-point of my life and work; flowers, herbs, ornamentals, natives, edibles, shrubs & trees. I love the official Latin names and my brain is full of their nomenclature. The Leafy Lexicon is a recent project to create 'beautiful education’ on the wide-ranging family of edible leaves and their merits.
A new botanical poster of Edible & Medicinal Weeds is in the works.
My recent favorite books are ‘The Overstory’, ‘The Warmth of Other Suns’ and 'Braiding Sweetgrass’.
I am a mediocre, improvisational cellist and budding jazz pianist.
The last 15 years I have spent out in the countryside accompanied by a wonderful husband, two gorgeous Bengal cats, three Barbados Blackbelly sheep, a large flock of chickens and a BIG garden. My ‘studio’ is anywhere on the property— inside or out.
