“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.”– Oprah Winfrey
Hi there! I’m Susan Fehrenbacher Flood, owner of “Suzy’s Chocolates, LLC”. Making chocolates is my passion! I love it. I started my business in the fall of 2018. But, I’ve been honing in on my skills for years.
My journey to the culinary world has been far from traditional. I grew up in Central Oregon on a farm near Smith Rock. I attended Oregon State University, where I earned my degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. I lived in Southern California for 16 years before moving home to Oregon. (My husband and I decided upon McMinnville – best decision ever!)
I used to dabble with making chocolates and other holiday treats for my co-workers, friends and family. Then, one year, I got more serious about my hobby and decided to take a professional chocolatier class, which lead to more classes, reading tons of chocolate and food science books, better equipment and this obsession to practice and improve my craft.
In addition to my chocolate obsession, I also work from home for a medical device manufacturing company. But the best duty of all: I get to be the mother to the most wonderful little 4-year old girl. She cracks me up and keeps me going. We also have two adorable pooches, Gus and Maggie.
If I was a Muppet, I’d be Dr. Bunsen because of all of his whacky experimentation. I love science and I also love art. I’m so drawn to chocolate because it requires both a technical, scientific focus as well as an expression of artistic creativity.
